James T.
I have visited Thai Chili on several occasions, and was always fairly pleased, simply because it was the only Thai food available in the Grand Valley. However, my last visit left me rather disappointed. The offenses were numerous: 1. The waiter's lack of respectable appearance being low-riding blue jeans, an un-tucked t-shirt, and his hair forming a curtain over his eyes. 2. The waiter's unhealthy neglect for professional communication, which began with, "Ya know whucha want yet?". 3. The absolute blandness of the menu items ordered. You ask, "How can Thai food be bland?". I don't know either, but somehow they managed. 4. Finding the Tom Kha Gai was made from concentrate (I spied a case of Tom Kha soup mix as I was headed to the restroom). As easy as it is to make from scratch, this is huge offense in my book. 5. The tasteless Pad Thai consisted of rice noodles, an insufficient quantity of sauce, a few pieces of chicken meat, and a couple cuttings of green onion; the worst I've had. 6. The bathrooms were filthy, and the smell was something like decaying food mixed with hair perming solution. Blahhh! 7. The large flat screen illuminating the dining room displayed TRUtv's Bait Car, a 'reality' show about catching car thieves in major U.S. cities. The perfect finishing touch for the experience. Had I inadvertently wandered into an Asian styled sports bar serving piss-weak Thai food? My return is unlikely.
